Bakeng se Afrika
I am currently the Junior Project Coordinator for Bakeng se Afrika - an EU co-funded project to create a digital skeletal repository of South African individuals. Practically, this means that I am involved in general management of the project - creating and maintaining the brand, stakeholder engagement, creating the budgets and managing the administration for reporting on funding and managing the team that is creating the data to populate the repository.

As the Junior Project Coordinator of Bakeng se Afrika at the coordinating institution, I spend much of my time communicating with internal and external stakeholders. Bakeng se Afrika is a consortium of eight institutions - four national and four from the EU. I ensure that my interaction with people is kind, warm and enthusiastic, yet firm and detailed.
Funding Applications and Reporting
I am tasked with reporting on the progress of the project to the EU, including the project results, dissemination, sustainability and finances. Our first report to the EU on Bakeng se Afrika returned with a score of "very good". I was also part of writing and submitting another proposal to the EU for an education project called Dirisana+. Our application went very well and we were rewarded the full amount of funding (1mil Euro). Dirisana+ will start in 2021.
Managing the Creation of the Bakeng se Afrika Repository
I am part of the team that curates the metadata and creates the microCT scans that will populate the Bakeng se Afrika digital skeletal repository. This entails scanning physical skeletal material at Necsa, reconstructing the scans, cleaning the data for upload to the repository and ensuring that researchers can navigate and use the data for research.
